Fish Balls
Fish Balls are popular in soups in Hong Kong, there is an amazing variety.
Fish Balls are served along with Wontons and/or Noodles in Soup.
Mini sausages pictured left sometimes have cheese inside.
Udon with Seaweed and Mushrooms
A rainy night in Kennedy Town, craving a simple noodle soup, no tempura shrimp, no funny fish cakes, no tender tofu.
Within 4 blocks of my flat, 6 Japanese restaurants.
The closest on Sands Street – 2 small street fronts, had its usual line, 10+ people waiting in line filling out tick sheets.
I headed to Hau Wo Street – I knew there was yakitori, but not sure about Udon.
There is, a thinner Udon, but the same gummy yumminess, simple shreds of seaweed, plump shiitake caps.
Braised Eggplant, Minced Pork and Mushrooms
There is something about eggplant in Asia.
Buttery eggplant – braised, slow cooked, grilled, fried.
Melts in your mouth – unctuous.
More eggplant to come!
